The Spiral Staircase
This was one of those cool b&w movies that we would watch on rainy Saturday or Sunday afternoons in my neighbor's basement. We loved it! Couldn't get enough of it. I rented the dvd last night to show Marcellino. It sucked!!
Okay, well not entirely, but when you can see the painted trees on the set and some super wooden acting, it's really shocking. Don't get me wrong, Dorothy Maguire was great, and being that she was unable to speak during the film, she was very effective. What I hated was how the other characters would tell her story to her, to fill in the audience. Ugh! But what I really really loved was Elsa Lanchester. She was so great.
I fell asleep once I remembered who the killer was. Marcellino stayed up and watched the movie, and he liked it. I was disappointed. He only has one or two nights off a week, and he made us tacos last night. I wanted a good movie to watch, and I had Thumbsucker! I chose Spiral instead! Oh well. I'll have to watch Thumbsucker tonight on my own.
How sad is it that Chris Penn died at 40? I had written a little story about when I met Sean Penn, but decided to remove it. No big deal. He was a nice guy, I'm sorry for him.
More later...
